About Turn
Market sentiment remains fragile.
Hot inflation prints in Europe and robust economic data readings (notably the US and China) have triggered a swift reassessment of interest rate expectations.
The result has been a sharp sell-off in just about every risk asset. Shelter was hard to find in February 2023 (chart courtesy of Bloomberg):
Against this backdrop, selective absolute return strategies that can offer uncorrelated return streams to portfolios remain a sensible investment vis-à-vis bonds and equities in our view.
As does cash, which has returned as a viable strategic allocation after years in the wilderness. Investors can now be paid to sit patiently whilst seeking to take advantage of attractive entry points in other assets.
We remain vigilant, with a focus on playing good defence.
